Manny Ramirez headed to White Sox

Posted in News on August 30th, 2010 by admin – Comments Off

Manny Ramirez will be sent to the Chicago White Sox on a waiver deal Monday, according to a baseball source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Dodgers aren’t expected to get any players in return, but are likely to unburden themselves of the $4 million or so that Ramirez is due to earn over the remainder of the regular season.

In his last game for the Dodgers, Ramirez pinch hit against the Colorado Rockies in the sixth inning with the bases loaded. He was ejected from the game after only one pitch as he argued that the called strike was a ball.

Louis Oosthuizen pulls away for British Open victory

Posted in Celeb, News, what on July 18th, 2010 by admin – Comments Off

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — Hardly anyone knew Louis Oosthuizen, much less how to pronounce his name. Not many will forget the performance he delivered at the home of golf to capture the British Open.

A week after the World Cup ended, South Africa had more reason to celebrate Sunday, this from a most unlikely source. Oosthuizen, a 27-year-old who had only made one cut in his previous eight major golf championships, blew away the field at St. Andrews for a victory that looked as easy as when Tiger Woods first won here a decade ago.

Oosthuizen (WUHST’-hy-zen) made only two bogeys over the final 35 holes in a strong wind that swept across the Old Course. He led over the final 48 holes and closed with a one-under-par 71 for a seven-shot victory over Lee Westwood of England.

Serena Williams keeps her Wimbledon crown

It wasn’t one thing that Vera Zvonareva did wrong. It was only that Serena Williams did everything right.

Williams measured her forehands and didn’t try to make extravagant winners, just precise ones. Williams corralled her serve, placing it on the lines so much that Zvonareva tried several times to challenge the results via the electronic lines system, but usually Zvonareva didn’t really have hope. She’d be standing on the other service line as if she just needed to see what she couldn’t believe.

It took Williams only 63 minutes to win her fourth Wimbledon title Saturday on Centre Court and her 13th major career title to pass Billie Jean King in overall majors won.

First came the goal, then came the celebration.

Then came the tears.

After lifting the U.S. soccer team to the most dramatic – and one of the most important – victories in its history Wednesday, Landon Donovan broke down briefly at a postgame news conference.

Lakers come to their own defense

It started nine months ago on a quiet day in El Segundo, aspirations of a 16th NBA championship a distant possibility, but it ended with finality for the Lakers, in a victory against their hated rivals amid a blizzard of purple-and-gold confetti.

It wasn’t pretty, the teams enmeshed in a slow-speed chase to be the first to 80 points, but redemption arrived for the Lakers, an entire arena, 12 players and a 64-year-old coach who exhaled as one after the Lakers fended off the Boston Celtics, 83-79, Thursday in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

There will be a victory parade Monday, snaking its way through the heart of a city that was broken two years ago by the Celtics but invigorated Thursday at Staples Center.

Paying customers are getting punished with this

Bioshock 2’s system requirements have been published today, and guess what? Our little friend SecuROM is hidden away, cackling to itself in a way only the most evil beings know how. Alright, there’s no limit on installations this time, but honestly I won’t be happy until SecuROM goes away for good.

By the way, you can pre-order Bioshock 2 on Steam here. It’s 10% off, and comes with a free version of Bioshock (which you can gift to a friend if you already have).

Hit the jump for the (pretty reasonable) System requirements.

2K Games has officially released the minimum and recommended PC system requirements for BioShock 2 via Steam, which unfortunately includes the infamous SecuROM DRM activation process.

The listing has revealed that there is a “5 machine activation limit” on each copy of the game. Here are the full list of system requirements:

Bioshock 2 DRM: SecuROM, activation limits, and bears

Bioshock 2 will come both as a boxed retail product and a for-pay digital download if that's more to your taste. Looking at the game's page on Steam reveals something disappointing for those of us against invasive DRM: the game will utilize SecuROM and comes with a five-machine activation limit.

2K Games dealt with this decision head-on via its official forum. “BioShock 2 is using a standard Games for Windows Live activation system, much like other games you have played in the past,” a 2K Community Manager writes. “That doesn't mean you always have to be online to play or save the game—you can create an offline profile for the Single Player portion of the game (you just won't earn achievements and you can't play Multiplayer, of course.)” Of course.

“We are using SecuROM only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2. That is it's only use.”

Well, there is also that pesky five-machine limit, which many of our readers find intolerable. Will this lead to lower sales? Who knows. It's important to know what you're buying for your money, however. A quick note: Shacknews lists the activation limit at 15 machines, but as of this writing the listing claims five. We've included a shot of the screen so you can see for yourself. It's very possible that could change before launch.
